We are in the first week of June which kicks off many of the summer reading programs that have begun for Acadia-St. Landry.
We love visiting our local libraries, especially during the summer time when they host many fun activities like this Friday, Acadia Parish Library's Summer Reading Kickoff Party, plus many fun crafts and story times to encourage and promote literacy while the kids are out of school.
This week the Opelousas Public Library celebrated the initiation of their summer reading program with a celebration of local authors for their Literary Lights at the Library event.
We had the pleasure of meeting with Opelousas-native authors Krissy Redding, Mary and Sanaa Mitchell and Trina Francis who were available with their very own published books. Visitors had the opportunity to discuss their books and purchase a personalized signed copy.
I enjoyed talking with each author about their books that offered beautiful and inspirational stories for children as well as something for parents. If you're looking for new books to read with your child and something different for your bedside table, give these a look and support these local authors.
In Mrs. Trina Francis' published book, 'My Paw Paw Said!' tells about her grandson's stories of memories shared with his grandfather that many young children can relate to. You may be able to find a copy to check out at the Opelousas Public Library or consider purchasing one as a great gift idea for a grandchild.
In 'A Summer with Sanaa' Mary Mitchell depicts the story of a girl's health journey and her bravery in a children's book beautifully illustrated by Sanaa Mitchell. Mary Mitchell also has an adult version to the children's book, 'The Blueprint' which she wrote from a personal perspective that offers a real and raw look at the struggles faced during her journey for health care answers with CIDP.
Krissy Redding, an experienced published author also by the name of Krissy Vanity, is a mother of 9! She talked about her personal and spiritual growth that have made her successful which she was inspired to share through her published works that are great selections for adults. Redding described how her latest book “Ignite: The Creative Journal For Reflection And Creative Exploration" is essentially a journal and offers a reflective examination for the reader, which emphasizes learning about yourself and achieving full potential.
Redding has many published works for both women and men, available on Amazon.com that help offer solutions to overcome issues which might be considered as obstacles for success and self-healing.
