Eunice accordionist, Jojo Reed leads next Zydeco Capital Jam

By St. Landry Parish Tourism | Cajun Travel February 5, 2025

The Zydeco Capital Jam, a monthly jam for musicians and fans, returns with accordionist JoJo Reed from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8 at the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center at I-49 exit 23, just north of Opelousas.

Reed, a Eunice resident who has played zydeco coast to coast for more than 30 years, will lead the jam. Reed was the third artist to lead the jam after it debuted in February of 2019.

Leader of the Happy Hill Zydeco Band, Reed is known for hits, such as “Tropical,” “I’m a Po Po Man,” “Got it from Boo,” “Who’s My Friend” and the comical “Not Your Baby’s Daddy,” which crossed over to local pop radio in the late 1990s. He’s been honored with the Boozoo Chavis Awards at the 2016 Zydeco Music and Creole Heritage Festival and a certificate of appreciation at the 1996 Original Southwest Louisiana Zydeco Music Festival in Plaisance.

Reed, who also plays harmonica, has performed at the Long Beach Bayou Festival in California, the J. Paul Getty Museum grand opening in Los Angeles and the Fiesta San Antonio Taste of New Orleans festival in Texas.

Reed makes a rare appearance in his hometown at noon March 1, part of the five-day, Cajun Mardi Gras Festival in downtown Eunice.

About the Zydeco Capital Jam

The Zydeco Capital Jam recalls the tradition from when zydeco legend Roy Carrier would jam with other great musicians at the Offshore Lounge in Lawtell. Musicians are welcome to come out and bring their favorite instrument and jam or sit back and appreciate the music. Every month, executive director, Herman Fuselier, invites zydeco musicians to lead the jam. They can range from world-famous names to hidden gems from the parish. These jam sessions are your opportunity to hear your favorite songs, play with friends, and experience the Gumbo For Your Soul that is zydeco music.

The Zydeco Capital Jam is open to musicians of all skill levels. Seating is available for zydeco fans to sit and tap their toes.
