Around here we know how to have a good time and it often entails great food! We love a good cook-off as it brings out some of the best dishes contestants serve up hoping to claim the prize for the taster's choice. What's better than a fun family day out with food, music, and more all while supporting a local cause?
It only seemed natural for Macaroni KID to show our support of the Lion's Club first annual Spaghetti Cook-Off, a benefit to raise funds in support of the Eye Foundation and Lions Club summer camps for kids with disabilities.
With many teams consisting of local business owners and community leaders showing up to show off their cooking skills, Macaroni KID Acadia-St. Landry couldn't wait to explore the pastabilities they were dishing up (see what I did there? )
The fundraising event had a little something to offer for everyone with the first event of the day kicking off with Jeep Ride.
The Cook-Off took place in the St. Landry Parish Ag Arena where there were classic cars and trucks lined up outside and even a hearse featured for the muscle and antique car show!
Live music from One Trick Pony and Coteau Grove entertained the crowds throughout the day while browsing items available for the live and silent auctions.
Outside there was a petting zoo and pony/horse/cow rides for the kids.
Inside the arena there was also an inflatable RC Track provided by Big Boy Toys and Hobbies for the kids and those 'young at heart' to enjoy.
It was a beautiful day for family fun, great food, and connecting with the many community leaders and business leaders who all came out in support of the Lions Club. One might say we as a community like to 'stick together like spaghetti'.
About the Lions Club
Opelousas Lions Club is a non-profit organization that serves to support the needs of its community.
Lions have a dynamic history. Founded in 1917, we are best known for fighting blindness, but we also volunteer for many different kinds of community projects - including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled.
Lions serve youth. Lions club community projects often support local children and schools through free eye screenings, scholarships, recreation and mentoring. They service ALL students in St. Landry Parish up to 3rd grade providing vision screenings and if needed will provide vision appointments and glasses for those who qualify.
Internationally, Lions Clubs offer many programs, including the Peace Poster Contest, Youth Camps and Exchange and Lions Quest.
