One of our neighboring publishers, Macaroni KID New Iberia shared a fun craft for Father's Day for her weekly segment of Crafting Wednesday on News15! We wanted to share these cute and creative ideas for 3D-themed Father's Day cards that would make great gifts that come from the heart.
This week on Good Day Acadiana we took Father's Day cards to another level! We're always searching for the right card to give Dad for his special day. I wanted to bring that same excitement to our craft this week so we created these 3D themed Father's Day cards. The kids will love to make these for their special guy!

I was inspired to create these 3D-themed cards from craft ideas on We Are Teachers. I knew I needed to put my own spin on it and find items around the house that we could use to make these cards stand out.

Ideas for your 3D Father's Day Card
These cards truly are the perfect craft for kids of any age to make. I did three samples to give you a few ideas that you can easily make with items around the house. I decided on three specific themes:
Favorite snack: "You're the Best Pop Ever!"
Favorite activity: "Our Dad is the Perfect Catch!"
Favorite game: "We Love You to Pieces Dad!"
You can use one of these ideas or come up with others based on Dad's favorite food, sport, or activity. For example, if Dad is an avid runner, you can create a card with a running theme with something like, "We'd run thousands of miles for you Dad!"
Supplies you'll need:
- Poster board
- Construction paper
- Markers
- String or ribbon
- Markers
- Mod Podge or Elmer's glue
- Paint and brushes
- Hot glue
- Stickers, or other small decorative items like noodles, beans, popcorn, or sequins
- Water bottle tops or other small bottle caps
You can use one poster board for all of your cards. You can even make one big card from the whole family! But if you have children of different ages, they can each make their own if you cut the poster board into four even pieces.
Once you decide what theme your card will be, it's time to get started! If you decide to paint on your designs on your poster board, it will make your cards bend a little. You will need to make sure to let your paint dry completely.
After your paint is dry, you can begin to add the other items or designs to your card. For our fishing-themed card, we got even more creative and added water bottle tops as fish, string for a fishing pole made of pipe cleaners, and even used a paper clip for a hook. We also used scraps of construction paper to make our sun come off the edge of the page.
| My favorite card was the one we made with the puzzle pieces. We made a version of it at home and then Alex decided she liked that one so we made her version of that card while in the the studio. We simply used an old jigsaw puzzle and glued pieces on top of pieces around the edge. We added another heart in the middle too. And to give it an appearance of lifting off the page, we used a water bottle top to add an extra bit of space between the two hearts. There really is no wrong way to make your cards.
