On Saturday, May 18, Kallie Johnston will give a presentation on Opelousas during the Civil War. The presentation will take place from 1 to 3 p.m.
Ms. Johnston’s talk will include art sketches of area soldiers to provide a glimpse at life in St. Landry pre and post-Civil War. She has served as an intern at the museum for several months documenting Civil War soldiers and museum artifacts from that period. Her internship is through a Guilbeau Center Community Engagement Grant with the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
Kallie Johnston is a graduate student in the master's program at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, majoring in Public History. She has a special interest in local history and loves exploring the diverse peoples of the community and their customs, experiences, and presence.
Originally from Church Point, she enjoys helping others, like her grandparents, learn about how important they are to our history. Her goals are to make a difference in the way we tell difficult or traditionally untold histories, and to inspire everyone to discover who they are.
This free event takes place at the Opelousas Museum, 315 N Main St., Opelousas, LA 70570 on Saturday, May 18 from 1 to 3 p.m.
