The Louisiana Folk Roots Camp Experience

It's not too early to begin thinking about summer camp programs and we are more than a little excited to announce that Summer Kids Camp through Louisiana Folk Roots is now open for registration! The summer Louisiana Folk Roots held their 1st Annual Music Camp at Le Vieux Village in Opelousas Macaroni KID Acadia-St. Landry had the incredible opportunity to be a part of this fun and enriching program. Camp participants engaged in fun learning activities while learning Cajun and Creole music under the guidance from camper bands and local music artists.

Our Macaroni KID camper, Gavin, enjoyed every part of his experience pictured here with his guitar!

The camp welcomed all levels of young musicians who learned how to play traditional Cajun and Creole songs on a variety of instruments. Local music shops provided instrument rentals for campers who did not own an instrument to allow the opportunity to learn and gain new skills through the music classes and band labs offered during this camp.

The days also included fun activities with the campers from STEM experiments to outdoor exercises and learning traditional creole dance steps.

On the last day of camp a finale performance was held with an opening act for local music artist Wayne Singleton and Same Ol' 2-Step Band for the Sounds of Summer event. The campers performed songs they learned during the camp followed by a family-fun concert where campers put their creole dancing skills at work!

It was an incredible experience for our camper and he enjoyed every part of it! Watching him and all of the campers perform was amazing to see how much they learned and experienced in just 3 days.

The fun and the journey did not end once the summer camp was over. Since his experience at the Kids Summer Camp from 2023, Gavin has been invited to participate with fellow alumni campers for additional events with La Folk Roots including the "Instrument Petting Zoo" held at the Nativity Lighting in the Downtown Opelousas Square. La Folk Roots continues to nurture their love and passion for traditional Creole and Cajun music through programs in the community.

Registration is now open for summer camp if you wish to sign your child up!
