We took a day to visit the St. Landry Parish Visitor Center for a tour and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The Visitor Center offers a wealth of history about our culture and is a great place to visit on a weekend or during school breaks. As we drove up the first thing that grabs your attention from the highway is the wind turbine located at the top of the center.
As our guide took us on the tour of the center we learned of the various ways they implement sustainability through environment-friendly structures which were inspired from traditional practices. It was very informative and interesting to learn. We were also able to see the beautiful and unique art works made from the original structure and recycled materials.
If you haven't made a visit before with the kids you should definitely give them a call and schedule a tour! On the third Saturday of the month you can listen to the musical creole styles of local musicians at the Jammin' on the Bayou Sessions from 1-3pm. On Wednesdays you can listen to the musical styles of dulcimer and bluegrass at their Dulcimer Jam held from 10am-12pm.
