Walter the Wolf by: Marjorie Weinman Sharmat

"Nobody's Perfect Forever"

By Madlyn Zaunbrecher February 5, 2017

As a child, I loved this book! I got it in first grade with the Weekly Reader order.  I think at that time, I probably just loved the illustrations! It is filled with vibrant colors and detailed artwork.  Recently, my children and I unpacked the book from a crate of books that had been set aside for years.  I'm not sure who enjoyed it more when we read it, me, or the girls.  I didn't get the lessons presented in the story as a child (at least not that I remember).  But, what an opportunity I had to discuss these issues with my children.

Walter is "perfect" in his mom's eyes (can't we all relate?).  As a result, his mom puts an incredible amount of pressure on him.  Walter reaches a point where he is tired of being perfect.  His choices serve as great lessons for both he and his mom.  There is also an incredible opportunity to talk about kindness and how to treat others.  Great book in my opinion!  I checked online, and it does seem to be available to check out at the Acadia Parish Library.  I have not confirmed a location in St. Landry Parish.  It is available for purchase from Amazon, and in my opinion, would make an adorable addition to an Easter Basket!
